Species Identity: Cyana perornata
is a brightly colored species of moth belonging to the Erebidae family (subfamily Arctiinae). It was originally described by entomologist Francis Walker in 1854.
Size: It is recognized as the largest species within the Cyana genus found in Borneo and Singapore.
Appearance: Adults feature striking crimson stripes (fasciae) edged with black and a marginal band of paler red with a zig-zag inner margin. Both sexes have a single, distinct black discal spot on their wings.
Habitat & Range: This moth is found in South and Southeast Asia, including Northeast India, Nepal, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Sundaland. It primarily inhabits lowland forests, extending into lower montane forests.
Diet: Larvae of this genus are lichenivores, meaning they feed on lichens and mosses growing on tree trunks, rocks, or walls. Adults consume nectar.
