The European robin (Erithacus rubecula) is a charismatic, small songbird recognized by its bright orange-red breast. Found across European Robin Overview, western Asia, and northern Africa, they are highly territorial, famous for their daytime and nocturnal singing, and frequently approach gardeners looking for unearthed worms.

Appearance and Biology

Size: They are plump, compact birds measuring about 12.5–14 cm in length, with a wingspan of 20–22 cm and a weight of only 14–21 grams.

Plumage: Males and females look virtually identical, both boasting brown upperparts, bluish-grey neck sides, a white belly, and the iconic orange face and breast.

Juveniles: Young birds are speckled brown and gold, only developing their famous "red" breast after their first post-juvenile molt.Lifespan: Despite their spunky personality, their average lifespan in the wild is quite short—usually just 1 to 3 years.
