Trogulus schoenhoferi is a newly described species of trogulid harvestman, a type of soil-dwelling arachnid belonging to the family Trogulidae within the order Opiliones. Formally classified by scientists Prieto, Merino-Sáinz, and Hernández-Corral, this specialized arachnid was discovered and mapped in the Mediterranean scrublands of the Alicante province in Spain. Like other members of its genus, it is a highly specialized predator that lives entirely within the topsoil and leaf litter layers.
A prominent, bifurcated hood projects forward from their head. This specialized structure completely shields their mouthparts from above. They possess short legs relative to typical long-legged harvestmen. Their bodies are adapted for pushing through dense soil and leaf debris.
They prey almost exclusively on terrestrial snails. Their specialized head anatomy helps them navigate inside snail shells.
