Widespread and abundant in cities, neighborhoods, and farms. Avoids dense forests. Flocks gather in dense shrubs, moving and vocalizing among themselves. Males have sleek black bibs, a glossy rufous nape, and wings with bright brown and khaki tones. The underparts are pale gray. Females are uniform brown with a cute face and lighter eyebrow. Native to Eurasia; introduced to North America and not closely related to other sparrows there.
