10-6-2018 MONTE CORONA, VALENCIA - STONE CENTIPEDE (Order Lithobiomorpha)

Lithobiidae is a family of centipedes in the order Lithobiomorpha,

Like other centipedes, they are more active at night. They feed on insects and other small invertebrates. The eggs are deposited singly in soil. The lifespan can be over 3 years.

Why shouldn't you touch a centipede?
However, an experiment conducted in the 1920s concluded that the pain most commonly subsides after a number of hours. There can be swelling around the bite, and some victims may experience nausea, sweating and the swelling of lymph nodes following an attack. Centipedes should not be handled since they may bite.

Although there is no set season for millipedes and centipedes, they do come out in large numbers twice per year: in the spring when they lay eggs and in the fall when they prepare to overwinter.

Centipedes prefer moist, high-humidity environments to live. To eliminate these areas, repair water leaks, use dehumidifiers to keep basements dry and run exhaust fans in bathrooms and attics to help eliminate excess moisture.

House centipedes can run along walls, floors and ceilings and may reach speeds of over one foot per second.
