Enoplops scapha, commonly known as the Boat Bug, is a large and distinctive species of squashbug (family Coreidae). It is widely distributed across the Palaearctic region, including Europe, North Africa, and parts of China.
Appearance and Identification
Size: Adults typically measure between 11 and 14 mm in length.
Coloration: They are generally dark grey or uniform brown, often featuring cream-colored markings on the connexivum (the flattened side margin of the abdomen).
Key Features: One of the primary ways to distinguish E. scapha from similar species like E. bos is by its short frontal spines located near the base of the antennae.
Nymphs: Early-stage larvae have a green abdomen and very spiny antennae, while later stages look more like the common dock bug (Coreus marginatus) but with more pointed abdominal segments.
